Jesse Samuel King

	Jesse Samuel King, 97, of Dowell, passed away at 10:15 p.m. Monday, December 18, 2000 at his residence in Dowell.
	Jesse was a retired coal miner, having worked as a brakeman at the Old and New Kathleen Mines.  Jesse and his wife, Beulah, had run the Little Wonder Cafe in DuQuoin in the 1950s.  They also operated Kings Grocery in Dowell from 1962 to 1966.  He had worked at a dog kennel in Colorado in the late 1950s.  Jesse had also been a grave digger at the Mulkeytown Cemetery.
	His hobbies were gardening, going to auctions, fishing, farming and listening to the radio, especially DuQuoin WDQN news and the Murphysboro radio station trading post.
	He attended the Knoff Bend Pentecostal Church at Elkville.
	 He was born April 1, 1903 at Hallidayboro, the son of James and Addie (Syracuse) King.  He married Beulah Irene McCaslin on June 1, 1924 at Elkville and she survives.
	 He is survived by his wife of Dowell; two daughters, Joanna Bagley and husband Joe of Dowell and Mary Cavitt and husband Paul Jr. of Dowell; one son-in-law, Gene Barwick of Thompsonville; 15 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
 	He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert Jr.; daughter, Doris Barwick; brother, Albert; sister, Anna; grandson, Dennis Cavitt and one great-grandson.
	Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 21 at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin with Rev. Merle M. Macke officiating.
	 Friends called from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin and from 7 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
	 Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at DuQuoin.
	 Friends may make memorials to Franklin Skilled Care of Benton.
